Hello Rewind is a self-sustaining social enterprise launched by the Longitude in partnership with the non-profit Restore NYC. Our company mission is to create renewal -- right now we upcycle old t-shirts into laptop sleeves and work with international sex trafficking survivors to support their transition back into society. Since launching in February 2010, we've garnered national media attention, including mentions in Daily Candy, Planet Green, Gizmodo, Engadget, and Thrillist. If you don't know much about Hello Rewind, you can visit our website or read our blog to learn more about us.
We're looking for one rockstar Fellow to work in NYC this summer, help us out with the business operations and continue the growth of Hello Rewind to the next level. You'll have hands-on experience with the growth of a rising business and learn how startups work from the inside out. In addition, you'll be taking the reins of our operations -- training and working directly with the sex trafficking survivors we help support. We're asking for 3-4 days a week this summer from you, starting sometime in May 2010.
You are or will be New York City
Our office is in Manhattan, and the women work from Queens. It's going to be hard to work with us if you're outside of the city (you can, however, volunteer for other things, just not as a Fellow).
You're female
The women we work with are sex trafficking survivors, and many do not trust men. Although we have both male and female volunteers, our Fellow will work hands-on with the survivors and therefore must be female.
You have a passion for social justice
Hello Rewind was founded because we wanted to work to create new life for sex trafficking survivors. It'd be great if you had a heart for the same thing we have passion for -- after all, that's why we exist.
You're a quick learner and can change course at any time
We're a startup, and our business is very much a startup environment. We're always discovering and trying new things, and we expect you to do this too. If you're looking for a corporate, bureaucratic job, this isn't the position for you.
You're business savvy
While Hello Rewind is a social enterprise doing good in the world, we are also a business and believe very strongly in the market. Which means that we need someone who has a dose of business acumen to help out. Always wanted to start something? Care about the bottom (or the triple bottom) line? Understand the basics of economies of scale? Come apply.
You can see the big picture, but you can see the details
Ahh, the perfect combo -- big picture + detail oriented. We need to think about what Hello Rewind looks like next year, but you need to help us get there and keep track of all the things we need to do it.
You're willing to pull up your sleeves and do what's necessary
Jess (our strategy partner) spends a lot of time stuffing envelopes and replying to customer service emails, so you can't turn your nose down at that kind of stuff.
You can use computers and the Internet
It's kind of a no-brainer these days, but we'd like someone who at least knows how to use Excel (it's how we keep track of our orders) and can sometimes Tweet and blog with us. Also, it'd be good if you're quick on answering email and don't let things sit in the inbox for days.
You know how to operate a sewing machine
It'd be nice if you knew how to sew, but we can teach you anything as long as you're willing to learn. You'll be very familiar with sewing machines by the end of your summer.
